The spirit of your spirit

I know I am late writing this blog. Yet - here is the excuse - it was my birthday in the month of September, and coinciding wth a good friend's wedding and a two week break to the US, it's been a little manic. So - this once - I will forgive myself.

I was going to blog about an incident that happened on my last day in New York, however currently I am sitting in the beautiful city of Ajaccio in Corsica, and I feel I must write about something totally different. I may return to that incident someday in another blog, but for now I am following my heart (something I will always aim to do).

I have just returned to the hotel that I am staying in. We - my friend and I - have just had a cultural touristic day in the city of Ajaccio, and if you do not already know, this is the city of the famous French leader and Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. I'm such a geek in that I love learning about elements of history - especially about where I am - and to find out how the past has formed the present that we are in. Anyways I have spent the day also visiting Napoleon's home and finding out more about this courageous and spirited leader. Reflecting on this day and on his city I looked at some of his quotes and one of them that really stood out to me was about the power of the spirit:

"There are only two forces in the world, the sword and the spirit. In the long run the sword will always be conquered by the spirit."

It made me think and reflect further about the spirit and the human essence of what is the spirit. Now I am literally writing down my thoughts as I type so I am not sure how coherent this is going to be. Anyways, I am giving it a go.

As you may be aware each and everyone of us has a spirit, and as one dictionary explanation states its "the non-physical part of a person which is the seat of emotions and character; the soul".

If that is the case then the emotions and character, i.e. soul, is the foundation of our being. The soul is considered to be the main essence of us that will live on after we die. I do have a personal belief that we do live again, in other lives, in other bodies and hence I believe in the concept of reincarnation. So with this understanding I believe it becomes more important to ensure that we do not take on a broken spirit into other lives. Whether that is yours or another's spirit, my point is the same for both scenarios, do not break yours or another's spirit.

In my view breaking a heart (which is different to breaking a spirit) is something that is inevitable in life. We do that to ourselves and others constantly (expectation being the killer reason!). Anyways as mentioned in my opinion a heartbreak is different to breaking a spirit. I feel that breaking a spirit would be catastrophic as it's effects would linger on a lot longer and even after death - of course this is a very personal opinion. Whereas getting a heart broken is something time and healing can sort out.

As we all venture through this life - through trial and error - we will encounter many scenarios of heartbreak (as well as success) and it's in these scenarios I hope that you have an awareness of what makes up the foundation of your soul; your spirit. And really try to look at the makings of your spirit from your own point of view, and not from what society expects of you! (I will always ram this point to you and myself).

In my many interactions in life (especially in the last couple of years) I have found a huge pattern in that people are more often not happy with life or a situation when it doesn't resonate with their spirit and being. Yet it's interesting how I find that not many people are aware of this. And also what they are doing to themselves. So many of us have been brainwashed with what we think we want in life, that we have lost our spirit somewhere in the midst of this. Again in my view, the saddest thing is to look into someone's eyes and not see "life" there. Have you ever found that in yourself? I know in the past - when looking in the mirror - I have seen that in my own eyes, and yet I have also seen this in the eyes of others.

Personally I want to be able to look in the mirror and even though I may see heartbreak, and pain, I want to know and feel that my spirit is still there. Believing, living and truly being present to what and who I am, right now. And if it isn't there I want to have the awareness that I can re-ignite that flame / light of my spirit.

So what I want to say in this post is that in life you may go through many heartbreaks, failures, and successes, and one thing is for certain, you may fail, you may break, you may cry, and that's ok. Because healing from a heartbreak is always going to be possible, time will do that, yet in my view the only way any healing is going to be possible is if the spirit isn't broken.

So my words to you are:

(1) Make sure that you are aware of what the foundations of you spirit are.

(2) Take care of your spirit, and know how to re-iginite yourself if the flame ever goes out.

Maintain and watch that no matter what happens you try to never break yours or someones spirit. Remember the spirit is the essence and foundation of who you are. It is the beacon of light that you seek when you are working out what you are doing, and where you are going, it literally lights the way for you. So no matter what shit-storm is happening on the outside, if the spirit, the light or flame within is still there you can conquer anything.

MY LIFE MOTO:

#1

Drop the labels.

Labels will box you in, and not give the soul a sense of freedom. Live with what makes you happy. If the soul is content, then life will appear magical.

#2

Be true to you.

You are unique and not like anyone else, so make your own rules. Be guided in life, but carve your own path.

#3

Live the now.

We all have plans, but if you are not fully immersed in the now and are only worrying about tomorrow, then today will never be 100% fully realised.
